Services Provided
The SOAR Program believes strength comes from a structured, disciplined peer environment, where our patients learn responsibility, accountability and positive communication skills. During intensive residential services, SOAR employs a level system, based on treatment progress and other behavioral factors. Once a patient is deemed appropriate for supportive residential services, the essential treatment components remain in tact however, the patient is given gradually increasing levels of autonomy & responsibility with gradually decreasing levels of supervision. Patients in the SOAR program will participate in the following activities:
Assessments, Administered By Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor:

Treatment Planning:
Together with the patient, the clinical staff develops a treatment plan which takes into account the special needs of the patient and family, as identified in the assessment.
Group Therapy:
The patients participate in daily group therapy, which includes group discussion of individual assignments, self-disclosure, peer support, identification of incongruence and confrontation in a safe environment. Emphasis is placed on universality, as well of diversity.
Individual Counseling:
Patients in intensive residential participate twice weekly in individual counseling sessions with their primary counselor, supportive residential patients participate once weekly with their primary counselor.
Relapse Prevention/Recovery Group:
The patients participate in relapse prevention group weekly. With the help of clinical staff, they identify people and situations that may endanger their recovery, and experience a safe environment in which to develop and practice healthy response strategies.
Family Sessions/Program:
Patients participate in family counseling sessions with significant family members to open communication and to resolve on-going familial conflict as they relate to recovery issues.
Community Group:
Weekly, patients and staff unite in a group setting to discuss and resolve living issues. A latent function of this is to model open, honest relationships in support of a sober lifestyle.
Peer Call Up- Life Skills Training Group:
Patients use this group to begin confronting/supporting each other as they examine dysfunctional or inappropriate behaviors. This group also addresses life skills; such as planning outings, community service, and discussing level changes for patients.
Spirituality Group:

Patients participate in this group weekly to create a better understanding of their personal spiritual relationship with a power greater than themselves. Wrap up: Patients participate in a community wrap up group seven (7) times a week. They assist each other in identifying self-defeating behaviors and confront peers in a safe therapeutic environment. This group affords another opportunity for patients to practice interpersonal skills.
Structured Recreation:
Patients are transported to a gym five (5) days a week for supervised recreational activity. A trained professional guides the patients through exercise and weight training.
Educational Lectures:
Patients participate in educational lectures, five (5) days a week, during which didactic material relating to chemical dependency, the recovery process, and other information relevant to their lives is presented. These lectures provide patients with knowledge and cognitive tools to aid in their recovery.
Education Provided By Certified Teacher:
During the patients’ stay with SOAR, they are given the opportunity to continue their educational endeavors through the Pittsburg Independent School District. SOAR has a private classroom environment with a Texas certified teacher on property five (5) days a week. Each patient participates in grade-appropriate studies through the Nova Net self-paced program. Patients’ progress is based on their individual level of commitment.
